Privacy policy

Five Star Big Sky (“we”, “us”) runs stay.5starbigsky.com, where you can book our vacation homes in Big Sky, Montana. This policy explains what we collect when you use the site, why, who it is shared with and the choices you have.

What we collect

• Booking details you give us: your name, email, mobile number and card billing ZIP code, plus your stay: the home, dates, number of guests and pets.
• Card details: you type these into fields run by Stripe, our payment processor. They go straight to Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
• How the site is used: through Google Analytics, the pages you view (without your search dates or your confirmation code), roughly where you are, your device and browser, and how you reached the site. See “Analytics and cookies” below.
• Technical data: our hosting provider processes data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and keep it secure.

How we use it

• To make your reservation, take payment and charge any later payments shown at checkout.
• To contact you about your stay, by email and by text, including your door code and arrival details.
• To answer your questions, prevent fraud and keep the site working.
• To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.

We don’t send marketing emails or texts unless you ask for them.

Who we share it with

We share your details only with the companies that help us run your booking, and only for that purpose:

• Guesty, our reservation system, which stores your reservation and guest details (Guesty’s privacy policy). Your reservation also appears in the tools our team uses to look after the homes.
• Stripe, which processes your card and helps prevent fraud (Stripe’s privacy policy).
• Google Analytics, for site statistics, with Google’s advertising features turned off (how Google uses data from sites like ours).
• Vercel, which hosts the site (Vercel’s privacy notice).

We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect our guests, our homes or ourselves. We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising.

Analytics and cookies

• Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_…, which last up to two years, to count visits.
• Stripe sets cookies such as __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid on the checkout page to prevent fraud. Card payments need these.
• Your browser keeps your light or dark choice if you pick one, and, for the open tab only, the price you last saw and your booking summary for the confirmation page. These stay on your device.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, Google Analytics doesn’t load at all. You can also install Google’s opt-out add-on, or block cookies in your browser settings; the site still works, though card payments need Stripe’s cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep reservation records for as long as we need them for your stay and for tax, accounting and legal reasons. Google Analytics keeps site statistics for a limited period that we set.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing paul@reach5star.com. We’ll confirm it’s you and reply within the time the law in your state requires. We may need to keep some records, such as payment records, when the law requires it. We won’t treat you differently for asking.

Children

The site isn’t meant for children, and bookings must be made by an adult. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Security

The site uses encrypted connections, and card details are handled by Stripe, which meets the card industry’s security standard (PCI DSS). No system is perfectly secure, so please contact us right away if you think something is wrong.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here with a new date at the top.
